Effective Study Techniques: Tips for Retaining Information and Studying Smarter

AWESOME STUDY TECHNIQUES THAT ACTUALLY WORK!

Welcome to my blog where I will be sharing some awesome study techniques that actually work! If you're looking to study smarter instead of harder, you need some tricks up your sleeve. Studying is not just about sitting at your desk for some time and staring at your books. It's actually about having a fixed schedule and a great plan to get done with the syllabus.

So here are some study tips that will help you to retain more concepts and study more effectively:

1. START WRITING INSTEAD OF TYPING

In this digital age, people love to do everything using their laptops. For this reason, cursive is slowly becoming redundant because desktops and laptops don't have them. But according to a study published in the journal Psychological Science, writing down things instead of typing them (on paper or Tablets) helps us to remember those things for a longer time.

Along with this, students are often tempted to play games or watch funny videos (e.g TikTok/YouTube) while working on a system. These distractions can prove costly as they lower concentration levels. So go old school and bring out your pen and paper (and be disciplined if you are using tablets)!

While reading your lessons, write down the important things and make notes at school as well. Not only will this improve your memory, but it will also enhance your writing speed.

2. MAINTAIN YOUR NOTEBOOKS

I'd recommend that you get a different notebook for each subject for yourself. In this way, your work will be organized and you won't have to waste time looking for your own handwritten notes everywhere.

Highlight important words of each concept so that they catch your eyes easily. Also, if you have to remember a number of things when you're studying a concept, you can represent the information through charts, diagrams, and bullet points.

Additionally, have you thought about writing better answers and changing your approach to note-taking in class? Ask your home tutor for more tips on preparing well-written answers, especially for examinations.

3. GET A SCHEDULE IN PLACE

No matter what your friends say, having a schedule in place can really help. If you get into the habit of studying every day, it will slowly turn into a habit and soon, it won't be a pain any longer.

In fact, according to a study, you need 66 days to form a new habit. This means that if you diligently stick to your plan of studying every day for 2 months and 6 days, opening your books and studying will become second nature to you.

We recommend that you study for at least 1-2 hours every day and have a timetable as well. Don't study just one subject the entire time. Instead, make to-do lists daily and study different subjects so that you don't become bored. And don't just do homework; start studying seriously as well! Make notes and read up on things before class.
